puce Suicide - Client
La Loco  (Paris)  25 janvier 2005

In this place and with this bill, the shows promised to be hot in a heavy atmosphere. And it was, even the audience was not the usual one.

"Just you and me pornography"

Hum, are you sure ? A fact is the two girls of CLIENT are nicely pretty. But not only. Client are responsible of the first good CD for 2005, “City”, in a modern electro-pop style, influenced by DM, Soft Cell and some artists of the Mute company, their record company. So, these evening could not begin better.
Sarah B – wearing black leather gloves, contrasting with her blond hair, and playing with the microphone cable (Argh!) – and Kate H – attached to the machines, both dressed in pale blue, are the nurses bringing us to an happily cold hospital some are calling heaven and others, hell. The set was approximately 45 minutes and 12 songs – not enough to be cured of the city sickness.

The groovy white noises

Any SUICIDE fan knows that the band is not only a music band. They also bring with them a way of life, a way of watching the world all around us. And if you are not agree, please, come to see their shows. I'm sure, they will convince you.
It's around 00:20 that Martin Rev comes on stage, moving all around as if he wanted to explore his new territory. When the first sounds of “White Man” raise up, Alan Vega joins his long time friend, in a good mood, really happy to be here.

And the dream comes in true In 2005.

Even if “White Man” is not a real surprise and was yet the intro of the 2002 tour, played in 1998 too, Martin's sounds are more aggressive this time. And the crowd likes that and starts to go crazy. Second track is the never expected but so good “Rain of Ruin” from “Way of Life”, a prophetic song written 15 years before its realization, 9:11. Once again, machines and noises explode in the space and in the head of the audience. Missing this gig is really a “Wrong decision”, third track with Vega's wife, Liz Lamere, jumping on stage and dancing around, generating a little confusion as the public does not recognize her. So, when “Sweet white lady” begins, a fan comes on stage, Alan needs to convince him to go back and takes him into his arms. One more not expected song played in a harder new way as the Martin's machines volume goes higher and Alan tries to chasing around.
The first break is “Cheree”, with a strange disco tempo. After a little pause but no longer, “Ghostrider” starts to run. And I imagine the head on fire of “the motorcycle hero” riding and claiming his rage.
Alan is on his kneels at the center of the scene.
Martin is hitting violently the dots of his keyboards, with his spacy glasses,. He looks like a trash and not funny version of the “phantom of the paradise” (Brian De Palma's movie character), feeling numbed after each song. The set continues with a boosted “Death machine” while people are trying to fight. After a long “Dream baby dream” on which Martin sings, they leave the stage.
And they come
back for an unreleased techno track called “Staying Alive” and a great apocalyptic “Frankie Teardrop”. Audience insists and we get a final song “I surrender”.

I feel numbed, completely numbed, not sure of what I saw and heard.
This concert was a white noises storm with sharp beats, harsh vocals and screams. Creating moments of beauty sometimes. Provoking almost riot in the first rows.
It as a near implosion experience.
The SUICIDE experience.

Thanks to Mrev
You show me the way
